HDR Light Studio is very easy to use and fast to learn. Within hours of installing the software, you will be lighting shots to a higher standard and faster than ever before. The small investment of time adding HDR Light Studio to your workflow will pay for itself many times over with time savings and improvements to the quality of your images.
Hdr Light Studio Cinema 4d For Mac
Many HDR Light Studio customers found our web site looking for studio HDRI maps for their renders. However, after trying HDR Light Studio, they understood that each shot deserves it own unique HDR lighting, and as a 3D artist they deserve to learn how to light properly rather than rely on stock lighting.
Your customers are expecting the highest quality computer generated imagery on tight deadlines and to budget. In a competitive global market for 3D artists, if you can find a tool that can help you work faster and raise your quality, this is valuable to your business. HDR Light Studio customers report that they can light much faster and experiment more freely, leading to more lighting choices for their customers, and to a better final image. HDR Light Studio pays for itself many times over, and this is why it's the lighting solution for thousands of 3D artists world-wide.
HDR Light Studio is famous for the creation of custom HDRI maps to light your scenes. But HDRI maps have their limitations as the lighting is surrounding and seen by the entire model. What if you want to light a specific detail and have a HDR textured light source in 3D space? You may not know that HDR Light Studio also creates 3D area lights in your scene with mapped HDR textures. This allows specific parts of your scene to be lit, with lights that reflect and illuminate only specific parts of the model. The combination of HDRI map and HDR Area lights makes HDR Light Studio much more useful for a wider variety of lighting tasks.
With HDR Light Studio, the goal is to create an efficient and artist driven way to light a 3D scene. It is true that the medium by which the lighting is shared with your 3D software is a HDRI map... but the map is just the transporter for a perfectly crafted, unique lighting design.
While, traditionally, visual artists might have spent hours, if not days, setting up lighting scenes manually, today we can simply load a HDR image and leave the system to handle much of the heavy lifting.
In both these workflows, the use of the system remains the same. Essentially, you load your environment and start to adjust it, adding in light sources where needed to provide the lighting and refl ections required on your model.
This is done by choosing the type of light you want to add in, then positioning it. For this you can either position it in the HDR preview (the lower window in figure 1) or by placing a highlight on your 3D model (and having the system work out its position in your HDR image).
For some time now, the system has allowed you to load in your own models (rather than using the default teapot), this means you can place highlights more accurately and gain more context for your edits.
When you output the final environment, these are then mapped into that final image. These tools are not just useful for creating light but for adding and positioning additional lights or other content to HDR images as well.
Sometimes when lighting a product shot, you need light/reflections to affect only a certain part of the 3D model. But image based lighting using a high-dynamic-range imaging (HDRI) map will affect the whole of the 3D scene because, effectively, this lighting surrounds the whole scene.
For this reason, HDR Light Studio has been extended to allow lights to be promoted away from the distant HDRI map surrounding your scene, and into 3D space as area lights, mapped with HDR lighting content that is interactively controlled by HDR Light Studio.
These lights can then be moved around the model, still using the patented LightPaint system, to click on the 3D model to position the light, but with the addition of a distance slider, to bring the light closer or further away from the model.
This feature is currently supported when using HDR Light Studio with Maya, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D and MODO plug-in connections What makes this a massive time saver, and really fun to use, is that once a light is converted into an area light within HDR Light Studio, the connection plug-in will build the light for your chosen renderer and then links the HDR image content to it. These area lights are then totally controlled via HDR Light Studio.
HDR Light Studio - Important Crash Bug FixesThe HDR Light Studio Xenon Drop 4.2 build fixes a number of crash bugs related to adjusting ramps, duplicating lights and using certain presets.
To meet the needs of our most demanding users, we have added a new advanced motion blur filter - providing additional motion blur controls. These allow more realistic or creative motion effects. Advanced Motion Blur is perfect for creating accurate reflections and lighting for automotive imagery.
Motion Blur FilterThe Motion Blur filter is used to provide a linear motion blur effect. The example image above shows an HDRI map used for lighting and for the background image that was motion blurred using this new filter. Find out more here.
A new faster, re-engineered, Cinema 4D ConnectionThe Cinema 4D connection now uses our new API for a far more responsive lighting experience. We also took the opportunity to rework the behavior of this connection, here are the key changes:
Area Light Controls moved on the UIThe Area Light specific controls in the Light Properties panel have been moved and grouped next to the Area Light check box. The text labels match the yellow color used for area lights in the Light List. Many users overlook the area light feature. So now it's easier to find and to use. In addition the Falloff drop down has been removed and all lights will be created with physically correct quadratic falloff.
Area Light SpreadA new property called Spread has been added to the Area Lights. This controls the spread/directional setting on an area light. This has only been implemented in this release for Cinema 4D with Arnold, V-Ray, Redshift and Octane. This setting is ignored by non supported connections and renderers.
Diffusion FilterThe first filter added to HDR Light Studio is Diffusion - a blur effect that mimics the diffusion of light through a material like tracing paper or cloth. Spreading and softening the light.
Light LooksLight Looks allow you to easily store, compare, duplicate and edit multiple lighting designs in a single HDR Light Studio project. Looks are organized in a tree hierarchy, where the Child Looks add additional lights to Parent looks, allowing even more creative opportunities.
New APIWe have developed a new TCP/IP based API (Application Programming Interface) for HDR Light Studio. This new API is significantly faster, providing a far more responsive lighting experience for the 3D artist. The first connections to use the new API are the new Blender Connection and the Octane Render Standalone Connection. We are aiming to port other connections to use the new API, where applicable, in future connection updates.
Favorite PresetsA user can right click on a Preset and select 'Add to Favorites' or 'Remove From Favorites'. You can then filter to view only your favorite presets using the heart button. This saves a lot of time hunting through lists of lights when you know the ones you like to use often.
Replace all lights with a Rig PresetRight click on a rig preset and select - Replace Lights with Rig, to delete all current lights and add the rig lights. A much faster way to audition different lighting rigs.
Hover on a Preset for a larger previewYou can now hover over a Preset Thumbnail and a larger preview will appear that includes additional useful information about the preset. For example, pixel resolution on images, mapping used on lights etc. Images are now shown at the correct aspect ratio on Presets.
Improved workflows with Content and Element PresetsYou can now create new lights directly from all 'Content' and some 'Element' presets. You will be asked if you want to make a 3D or Background Light.
Enhancements:Save Render View Images - This Project menu item has been updated to save out all Render Views as EXR files, both the internal and external rendered image when available.Saving Render View Images during Production Render - Has been updated to save out all Render Views as PNG files with LUT baked into image.HDR Light Studio 'Project files' are about 8 times smaller in file size in this release than previous versions. We now only save the active settings on each light in the project. Performance may be improved when used via a connection as a result. The updated about box contains more information and a 'Copy Details to Clipboard' feature, which can provide our support team with useful information about your installation for trouble shooting.
