I've been annoyed by frequent green screens today, and apparently, if the memory dump analysis from my machine can be trusted, the SetupHost for the upgrade to Build 17040 seems to segfault. How screwed am I and what can I do to get around that issue?
Windows 10 Insider Preview 17040
In Windows 10 Build 17040, Microsoft was pressured by user feedback to introduce the current version of the setting that allows it to be disabled. In Build 17093, Microsoft reworded it to be more clear.
After launching the registry editor and following the steps below, one can try out the new Cortana in build 17040 by pressing both the Windows Key and S on the keyboard, or running a search via the Start Menu or Cortana box in the taskbar. Keep in mind that editing the registry is particularly risky, and can damage your computer if a mistake is made, so please, try at your own risk.
Cortana's integration to Windows 10 was seen as one of the OS' standout features. However, since its introduction, stylistically, the search UI has remained the same. It's also somewhat unintuitive. With the release of Redstone 4, Microsoft may be changing that. Last week, the company released build 17040 to insiders that brought about several enhancements. Hidden under those improvements, though, was a change that breathed new life into the search UI of Windows 10.
"Windows 10 stuck on loading screen issue keeps annoying me after I updated the system to Fall Creators Update Build 17040. Any fixes?" "The blue Windows 10 logo shows up with the spinning dots after I turn on the computer." "Every morning when I power on the computer, the Windows 10 keeps freezing on the loading screen with the Windows boot logo. Help!" "Windows 10 hangs at the loading screen and I have to reboot my PC twice. It is Fall Creators Update (v1709)."
At this time it's just a single font, if there will be more is not yet known, but seems likely. The description of Arial Nova in the Microsoft Store states that Windows 10 version 17040 or later is required for installation. Earlier this week, the Italian website Aggiornamenti Lumia also discovered that Microsoft is experimenting with language packages in the Store. These are so-called Local Experience Packs, which translate the Windows 10 environment into, for example, Russian or Catalan. 2ff7e9595c
